Software Developer (m/w/d) – Automation and Simulation

Breunig Aerospace is looking for a software developer to support ongoing and new projects with custom made simulation and automation software.

We are particularily open for young professionals with fresh ideas and enthusiams about software engineering and, ideally, have a certain background or familiarity with the aerospace field.

Main initial activities can be:

  • development of automation and data acquisition systems for internal testing equipment
  • improvement of our control & automation suite already deployed at a telescope testing facility
  • contribution to various simulation codes and libraries for optical simulation (raytracing) and design optimization.
  • contribution to embedded software projects (avionics)

Applicants should be well versed in Python and C/C++.

Other languages and especially development platforms such as Labview, Matlab or Mathematica are and additional asset.

Student trainee / internship: RayTracing code development

Breunig Aerospace is providing raytracing analysis of astrophysical telescopes for design optimization and test / calibration activities.

We use in-house and opensource codes (e.g. McXTrace) for this purpose.

The mid-term goal is to transition activities to a next generation in-house code which leverages modern GPU architectures and more easily integrates with other tools from the CAD and CAE realm.

We are looking for a student to contribute to:

  • theoretical verification of next-gen concepts
  • research on available open source components and alternatives
  • improvement of existing modules and tool-chains
  • developing and benchmarking of next-gen code

Applicants should have a good knowledge of computer graphics concepts and be fluent in Python and C/C++ (at least one required). Some knowledege of GPU programming (e.g. CUDA or OpenCL) is considered an advantage.

Student trainee / internship: Electric Propulsion for light Aircraft


We are currently developing an electric propulsion system for a light aircraft / sailplane and want to intensify our efforts in this sector.

We are looking for a student who can contribute to this field by:

  • setting up of lab- / workshop space for
  • assembly and testing of components
  • development of ground support equipment and software
  • documentation of test and development activities
  • design and development of electrical and mechanical components

Applicants from disciplines like physics, mechanical & electrical engineering or computer science are equally welcome given a certain minimal background in electric drive chains, battery technology or related fields.
